Ladyz in Noyz Australia in association with Undue Noise, Mundane Mondays, The Public Bar and Make It Up Club presents Ladyz in Noyz Australia showcases, panel discussions and workshops featuring some of the finest female sound, noise and experimental artists from Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney. Ladyz in Noyz are special guests at This Is Not Art 2015.

Mixing your Sound (Rosalind & Lara)

A workshop for women (all ages) on finding their way around a mixer. To look at how a mixer works, basic concepts of getting a good sound from the PA and having a successful sound check.about 1hr)

Considering the boost of efforts to make women more visible in music, from sound production and engineers to music projects and their mainstream media coverage, how have the experiences of women in the industry changed? Carolyn Connors is a Melbourne based vocalist, composer, pianist, and accordionist. She

has worked for Chamber Made Opera, JOLT, Quiver New Music Ensemble and Elision, with Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey, David Chesworth, Cynthia Troupe, David Tolley, Stevie Wishart, Warren Burt, and Jill Orr. Carolyn’s vocal work expands the possibilities of the acoustic voice through the exploration and presentation of new vocal territories. carolyn-connors.com


Marlo De Lara (Marlo Eggplant) is a prominent figure in the diverse international scene of

female experimental music and curator of the pioneering Ladyz in Noyz compilation series,

an ongoing project from 2008 to the present. She has released LIN Volumes 1-3 (including

the work of Australian artists), many US-based experimental artists, her own work and Lara Soulio’s ‘Bound for Nowhere’ cassette through her labels Spleencoffin and Corpus Callosum. Marlo has toured the United States extensively including the Victoria Noise fest (BC) , Norcal Noisefest, Denver Noise Festival, Titwrench Festival, locally curated satellite International Noise Conferences and the extended programme at 2013 Colour Out of Space Festival (UK). Marlo performs using processed autoharp and contact microphones, her sparsely structured notes and layered static textures build into sonically dense improvisations.

Harriet Morgan (Military Position) has performed at the Melbourne launch of Ladyz in Noyz Australia Volume I compilation in Melbourne, Make It Up Club, Long Play, International Noise Conference (2010) and supported Marco Fusinato and Lasse Narhaug at KIPL (2012). Military Position is a death industrial/power electronics solo act by musician Harriet K Morgan that draws on general themes of feminism, capitalism, social theory and mortality. soundcloud.com/harriet-k-military


Fjorn Buter (Papaphilia) has been playing and touring for almost 10 years in Adelaide and Melbourne as Oranj Punjabi, Papaphilia and with Gurner. She has issued releases through Altered States Tapes, a split 7” through Fallopian Tunes and is in the process of finalising a full- length release that features an art book. She has performed at Fringe festival (Newcastle), TINA, LINA and toured New Zealand in 2012. Papaphilia explores anxiety-ridden embodiment of cultural identity in live performance, amalgamated with improvised electronic effects and tape manipulation. soundcloud.com/gurner


Rosalind Hall is based in Melbourne. Rosalind completed a Bachelor of Sound Art at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2009, received grants from the Australia Council for the Arts and the New Music Network and is currently undertaking a funded mentorship with renowned audio- visual artist Robin Fox. She has performed at Melbourne Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, the Now Now, Sound Out, Electrofringe and internationally at iiii (NZ), Breathing Sounds (Tai) and Konfrontation (At). Rosalind has

exhibited for Melbourne Now, Adelaide Festival, Parisonic Hear and Now Festival at Instants Chaviré, Montreuil (Fr), Museruole On the Air (It), She has undertaken performance residencies in regional areas of Australia such as Punctum’s White Space in Castlemaine, the West Space Bogong AIR festival and Alan Lamb’s Dwellingup Arts Lab. Her current solo performance work explores how a space can form an extension to a body, Rosalind is attempting to create a shared experience of the transparency and dependency between body, instrument and presence. rosalindhall.bandcamp.com
