Wednesday 6th Feb
Old Fire Station Bendigo
8pm $10
Barcode Quartet
Annette Giesriegl (Austria) – voice and electronics
Alison Blunt (UK) – violin
Elisabeth Harnik (Austria) – piano
Josef Klammer (Austria) – drums and electronics
Pure radical improvisation from Europe. Visiting Australia for Canberra’s Sound Out Festiva (and only gig in Victoria)l, the four musicians perform music created entirely in the moment from a starting point of contrasting histories, energies and aesthetics. Annette Giesriegl’s studies of overtone singing, throat singing and Indian music with an emphasis on Indian vocal techniques give line to the textural play of piano and violin. Harnik and Blunt work within an electro-acoustic inspired sound-world, using unique preparations and extended techniques. Klammer‘s drums and subtle electronics bring expressive punctuation and a huge range of colour, providing the musical glue to the ensemble.

PLUS local support acts: Cray (Ross Healy’s amazing Buchla Synthesiser) and Jacques Soddell’s electroacoustic degeneration of everyday sounds.
Thanks to the City of Greater Bendigo for assistance with this gig.
